Hey
there Uncle Gnome. They tell me you can straighten a few things out for
me. I sure hope you can. This politics stuff is pretty damn hard for a
good ol' boy like me. It's a shit-load harder than just executing teenagers
down there in Texas ever was. Thing is, I'm just not real clear about this
whole Iraq business. We're the good guys and Saddam whats'is'face is the
bad guy .. right ? |
 |
 |
Depends on your
point of view George. Saddam Hussein is a nasty dictator of the kind that
the USA currently supports in lots of countries around the world. The USA
says he is a threat because he has invaded two neighbouring countries and
is developing 'weapons of mass destruction'. Did you know that America
possesses more weapons of mass destruction than any other country in the
world and, since the second world war, has invaded or bombed 19 other countries
around the word ? So can you see why there are differences of opinion on
which country is the biggest threat to world peace ? |
|
|
Yeah, but
don't confuse me with facts ! Weapons of mass destruction .. right ? That
bastard Saddam has nerve gas and chemical weapons and nic .. umm .. nacler
.. err .. nuclear weapons... and he's in breach of United Nations resolutions
and stuff. So we have to run him outta town for the sake of world peace
and things like that. Right ? Am I right ? Tell me if I'm right ! |
 |
 |
Well.. you're
probably right that Saddam does have some nasty weapons but do you know
where he got them George ? No ? Well in the 1980's America wanted Iraq
to fight with its neighbour, Iran, because at that time America liked nice
Saddam but hated nasty Iran. So good old Uncle Rummy.. yep .. Donald Rumsfeld..
was sent to Iraq to shake Saddam warmly by the hand and make sure that
America supplied him with horrible germ-warfare and nerve-gas weapons.
America knew he was gassing his enemies and later his own people with the
weapons it had supplied in contravention of international treaties on chemical
warfare, but they thought it was quite OK at the time. As to nuclear weapons,
well no. The UN weapons inspectors have found no evidence whatsoever of
any developed nuclear weapons program in Iraq. Mind you, there are other
countries the USA supports, like Pakistan and Israel, which really have
illegally developed nuclear weapons. If America really wanted to go after
a country that had secretly developed nuclear weapons and was in long-term
breach of United Nations resolutions, it would need to declare war
on Israel first. So.. are you going to do that George ..get on the phone
to Tony Blair and tell him the next target is Israel ? |
|
|
Get outta
town ! I'd never get re-elected if I did that, would I ? Even Texans ain't
that dumb ! OK Gnome, so America don't totally smell of roses but this
Saddam guy is big buddies with those Al-Quaeda terrorists isn't he ? Iraq
has terrorist links. It's the 'War against Terror', whatever that is. Thats
gotta be a good enough reason to go and bomb them guys back to the
stone-age. |
 |
 |
This is what
I mean about politicians telling lies George. That's very naughty and you
should be ashamed of yourself. Iraq is a secular state run by a dictator.
Al-Quaeda, and it's leader Ossama Bin Laden, are Islamic fundamentalists.
Saddam and Bin Laden hate each other. There's as much chance of them co-operating
as there is of the republicans putting up taxes to fund a decent health
service for poor people. There is not one credible shred of evidence linking
Iraq to the 9/11 atrocity or to Al Quaeda. Neither the American CIA or
British MI5 believes there is a connection. This is simply an attempt by
some naughty politicians to justify a war that the public doesn't want. |
|
|
Yeah .. well
.. heh heh .. you got me there Gnome. So OK .. let me get this straight..
America supplied Saddam with his germ warfare weapons and nerve gas...
he has no nuclear weapons.. there's no terrorist link... we've bombed the
shit out of 19 other countries and he's only invaded two...hmmm ..OK ..
well... the guys say he's a threat to his neighbours and.. erm... the people
of Iraq need to be saved from this tyrant. Uncle Sam has gotta preserve
democracy and freedom even in asia .. or china .. or wherever Iraq is.
How about that ? |
 |
 |
Who's been feeding
you this bullshit George ? Since the gulf war in 1991 Saddam has been totally
contained by the USA/british 'no-fly' zones and frequent illegal bombings.
During that time he has not made an agressive move against any other country.
No neighbouring arab state is currently worried. He has never had the missile
capability to reach any target in the West. The weapons he had back in
the early 1990's have been largely destroyed by the United Nations weapons
inspectors. The remnants of the biological and other weapons originally
supplied to him by America are no threat to anyone in the West. Iraq is
a broken country. The punitive sanctions carried out since the gulf war,
largely by Britain and America, have resulted in the death of over 400,000
Iraqi people, many of them children, from starvation and lack of medicine.
Of course Saddam is a nasty dictator, like most of the other arab heads
of state currently supported by Britain and America. Are you going to attack
Saudi Arabia too ? Maybe Iran ? Where do you stop ? And are the tens of
thousands of little Iraqui children that you will bomb and kill going to
thank you for 'saving' them ? |
|
|
I don't like
you Gnome .. you're confusing me and when I try to think too hard my head
hurts ! This ain't what Uncle Rummy and Dicky Cheney have been telling
me. My dad told me to shut up and just do what the grown-ups told me but
I'm starting to wonder. If you're such a smart-ass know-it-all, why are
we going to attack Iraq then ? |
 |
 |
Oh for pete's
sake George, haven't you worked that one out yet ? It's about oil stupid
! America is the biggest oil-guzzler in the world. Iraq is sitting on the
second biggest oil reserves in the world with some of the cheapest oil.
Dickey Cheney (remember him) says that America will need to import 60 %
more oil by the year 2020. If America can replace Saddam Hussein with a
'democratic' regime (i.e puppets friendly to america) then the American
oil companies can take control of Iraqs oil, and American SUVs will be
able to carry on guzzling cheap gas. Uncle Rummy and his friends in the
oil business have been lobbying for 'regime' change in Iraq since 1987,
long before the current 'crisis'. The USA has a fine tradition of gangsterism
dating back to Al Capone, and this is just the same thing on an international
scale. So what if it costs the lives of some UK and American servicemen
? So what if it costs the lives of tens of thousands of Iraqui women and
children ? You don't have a choice. The decisions were made long before
you were bought and put into office by the big American oil companies.
So I supppose you just have to do what you're told, like that funny little
Tony Blair does. |
|
|
This is way
too complicated fer me, Uncle Gnome. I can feel my brain over-heating again
and I get this nasty twitch when I try to concentrate for more than a minute.
Whaddya say we keep this simple, eh ? |
 |
 |
OK ..pay attention
then George and put those pretzels down. If the USA attacks Iraq it is
NOT
about - weapons of mass destruction - failure to comply with UN resolutions
- nuclear proliferation - freedom - democracy - terrorist activity - terrorist
links - or any threat to the west. It IS about America wanting
to illegally seize control of Iraqs oil. It's that simple. Got it now ? |
|
|
Yep .. makes
sense...but I guess I'm just gonna bomb the shit outta them anyway. Hey
.. thats the American way, ain't it ? ... See-ya later Gnome .... |
